Definition: settings

A software control panel that enables the user to configure the appearance or actions in an application, operating system or the hardware. Also called "preferences," "tools" and "options." Windows settings are contained in Control Panels, while Mac settings are found in System Preferences. iOS and Android settings are retrieved when tapping the gear-shaped settings icon.

If a program's settings are not modified by the user, the default configuration is used. See reset, default, hardware settings and control panel.
