The study of the human brain and nervous system. Neuroscience attempts to understand how the brain processes information to create consciousness, behavior as well as ailments.
Neuro is Greek for "nerve," and the human brain has an estimated 86 billion neurons. Each one can connect to thousands of other neurons. While the brain has the largest number, neurons exist in the spinal cord and throughout the body. Sometimes called the "second brain," the digestive system contains a huge number of them.
The Analogy
Computer-based AI neural neural networks are loosely analogous to the human system because as human neurons receive and transmit electrical and chemical signals, artificial neural network neurons receive and transmit electrical signals. See
