Definition: disk backup


(1) Making a duplicate copy of the computer's data files on another storage medium. See backup.

(2) Making a duplicate copy of the contents of the computer's entire hard disk drive on another disk drive. See cloning software.

(3) Making a duplicate copy of the computer's data files on another disk drive. In this context, disk backup is contrasted with backing up the data on optical discs or magnetic tape. See D2D and tape backup.
