(2) (Security Accounts Manager) The part of Windows that manages the encrypted database of usernames, passwords and permissions. SAM resides in each server as well as in each domain controller. See Syskey, PDC and trust relationship.

(3) (Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh) An earlier Mac antivirus program from Symantec Corporation, Cupertino, CA. It evolved into Norton AntiVirus for Mac.

(4) (Speaker Active Matching) A feature in integrated amplifiers from Devialet that corrects "bass timing" in stereo speakers. SAM recreates the orignal bass tones more accurately by monitoring the speaker's behavior and correcting it on the fly.
