Definition: Satoshi


The smallest fraction of coins in the Bitcoin digital currency system. Named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the alias of the Bitcoin inventor, one Satoshi is one hundred millionth (0.00000001) of a bitcoin. In order for one Satoshi to be equal to one United States cent, one Bitcoin has to be worth $1 million. In the Ethereum blockchain, the "wei" is a fraction of the native currency (see wei).
