Ledge) An earlier encyclopedia from Google that was user generated. Unlike Wikipedia, in which authors are anonymous, Knol authors were featured as experts with bylines and bios. Introduced in late 2007, the goal was to develop a collective body of knowledge from authorities in the field. In 2012, Knol was discontinued, and users were directed to Annotum, a WordPress theme for publishing literary articles. See
