(1) (Advanced Wave Effects) A Creative Labs brand for its Sound Blaster cards. See Sound Blaster.

(2) (Address Windowing Extensions) A Microsoft Windows programming interface (API) that allows an application to use more memory than it has reserved within its own address space. If a 32-bit operating system is used, and the application reaches beyond the 4GB limit, AWE uses the CPU's Physical Address Extension (see PAE).
