(1) (Patent Assertion Entity) See patent troll.

(2) (Physical Address Extension) A hardware feature of 32-bit x86 CPUs (IA-32) that enables the operating system to address more than 4GB of memory. Introduced with the Pentium Pro chip, PAE increased the address space from 32 to 36 bits. Unix and Linux machines, Windows servers and Mac Pro desktops have taken advantage of PAE to access up to 64GB of RAM. See 3GB memory limit.
