Definition: single pair Ethernet

A family of Ethernet standards that uses one wire pair rather than two or four as in regular Ethernet. Single pair Ethernet transmits full duplex. Designed to connect sensors in vehicles as well as industrial environments, there is also a power option similar to PoE. Power over Data Lines (PoDL) delivers up to 50 watts of 12, 24 or 48 volts DC and is an option for the following xBase-T1 standards. See 802.3, Ethernet and PoE.
