One of the earliest "smart plug" systems for controlling lamps and appliances from X10, Hong Kong. Like all smart plugs, x10 uses the home's electrical system to transmit signals. The x10 transmitters and receivers are set to one of 256 low-voltage codes. Many X10 products for home and commercial implementations are available. See home control network.
An X10 Controller
This x10 controller, which contains the transmitter, plugs into any AC outlet and controls up to eight X10 receivers that are plugged into their respective outlets.
