Definition: wireless high definition

The short-range transmission of 1080p video over the air to eliminate cables between A/V equipment, such as from a Blu-ray player to a TV. Also called "HDMI streaming" and "wireless HDMI," various technologies are used. However, unlike Wi-Fi, which is omnidirectional, these video transmission methods either require or work best with an open line of sight between sender and receiver. See WHDI, WiGig and WirelessHD.

Wireless Audio
The term may also be applied to the short-range wireless transmission of audio from an amplifier to speakers. In contrast to point-to-point wireless video, in order to automatically identify as well as transmit to surround sound speakers located around the room, wireless audio must be omnidirectional. See WiSA.
