Definition: virtual call center

A call center without in-house distribution equipment. The PBX, automated call distributor (see ACD) and related equipment are hosted by a third party. Virtual call centers, also called "hosted call centers," enable agents to work in remote locations. Calls may come in and out via regular telephone lines or voice over IP (VoIP). See call center and blended call center.
