Definition: smart quotes

Also called "typographer's quotes" and "smart apostrophes," it is the use of angled single and double apostrophes instead of the ones found on a typewriter. They are considered more stylish for typeset books. Programming source code uses the old-fashioned, straight-up variety. See smart.
