Definition: trending

(1) Deviating from normal operation. The term is used in industrial control networks when the analysis of data from sensors or the analysis of calculated summaries derived from data begin to show a deviation. See industrial control network.

(2) Becoming popular on social media. When a post, image or video is trending, people are spreading the word because the topic is entertaining, exciting or is in line with their beliefs.
