(3) A silver-colored element with the symbol Ti. Titanium is corrosion resistant with a very high strength-to-density ratio (half the weight of steel with much greater tensile strength). Grades 1 through 4 are pure titanium, whereas the widely used Grade 5 has at least 3% aluminum and vanadium. Titanium was discovered in 1791 by Reverend William Gregor in Cornwall, England. Originally called "manaccanite" because it was discovered in the Manaccan valley. See
