Definition: third-party cookie

A small amount of text stored in the user's computer (a cookie) that is created by a different website than the one the user is currently visiting. By default, third-party cookies, which are typically tracking cookies from ad organizations, are allowed by the Web browser. However, they may be blocked by the user in the browser's settings. Third-party cookies may also be generated from live chat sessions to recall a conversation and preferences. See cookie, first-party cookie and Web tracking.
