Definition: smishing

(SMS phISHING) A mobile phone scam. Instead of being directed by email to a website, which is known as "phishing" (pronounced "fishing"), smishing is a text message sent to the user's cellphone with some ploy to click on a link. The link typically may cause a Trojan to be installed in the phone or jump to a page that contains dangerous links.

Do Not Click on Just Any Link
Unless people know the company they are dealing with, they should never click on any link from a text or email. If the request seems legitimate, one way to analyze the situation is to look at the Web address or phone number. If it is not recognizable, the link should not be clicked. See phishing.
