Definition: technonationalism

How a country exploits technology to enhance its power, influence and economy. There is good and bad in everything, and technonationalism is no different. If a country walls off the Internet to the outside world, places its citizens under constant surveillance or engages in cyberattacks against other nations, the technology is used for malevolent purposes. On the other hand, if technology is used to save lives and alleviate suffering via medical breakthroughs or eliminate accidents by using automatic vehicle safety systems, people benefit greatly.
