Definition: tape cassette


A removable module that holds magnetic tape. Cassettes contain both the supply and take-up reel, whereas cartridges have only the supply reel. See cassette, audio cassette and magnetic tape. Contrast with tape cartridge.




Tape Cassettes
Cassettes like the ones on the right have both supply and take-up reels. In contrast, a tape cartridge has only one reel like the cracked-open 8-track cartridge on the left. See 8-track tape.
