Redirected from: tab-based browser

Definition: tabbed browsing

The function in a Web browser that keeps multiple websites open and available. Each time a website is retrieved, it is represented by a tab across the top or side of the browser, allowing users to jump from website to website by clicking the tab.

Tabs Can Become Windows
At any time, a user can grab a tab and drag it away from the tab bar, duplicating the entire browser window elsewhere on screen. Users with large or dual monitors may prefer two or more browser windows, each with a number of open tabs. See browser and dual monitor.

Tabbed Browsing in Firefox
Arrows point to the tabs created by pressing Ctrl-T (Windows) or Command-T (Mac) or by clicking the plus sign icon on the right side of the tab bar. This example shows horizontal tabs; however, some browsers have an option to render the tabs vertically like a menu column.
