Definition: stand-alone PC

A laptop or desktop computer that is used to process an individual's work. A PC is not stand-alone if it requires 24/7 access to a local server or the cloud for processing. Today, computers are commonly networked in the home so that family members can share an Internet connection as well as printers and scanners. They would still all be considered stand-alone PCs.
