Definition: software failure
The inability of a program to continue processing. Software failures are generally due to erroneous logic within the code. However, a failure in the hardware can cause software to fail, and if the hardware failure is intermittent, it can be very difficult to determine which one is causing the problem. See abend and hardware failure.
