Definition: ruggedized phone


A cellphone designed for use in harsh conditions. Construction workers, military personnel and people who must have a phone no matter how inhospitable the environment, may opt for a ruggedized cellphone or smartphone. Designed to withstand shock and extreme temperatures, ruggedized phones have extra hard cases. They are typically waterproof and generally smaller than flagship phones from Apple and Android vendors.
