Definition: reusable IP


(reusable Intellectual Property) Proprietary components that are used in different products. Although the term sometimes refers to software, it mostly applies to hardware circuits such as a CPU core or a digital signal processor (see DSP). For example, one of the most popular reusable IP components are ARM CPUs, which are licensed from ARM Holdings by smartphone and tablet manufacturers (see ARM).
