Definition: pure play


Dealing with a specific product or service rather than a mix. Pure play is generally a marketing term that means a company is specializing in one area. For example, "xyz is betting on a pure play in desktop PCs" means that xyz sells nothing but desktop PCs. A pure-play foundry is a semiconductor manufacturer that makes chips designed by and for its customers (see foundry).
