Making duplicate copies of files in a different geographic location such as in another building or at a cloud storage facility on the Internet. Also called "off-site data protection" and "vaulting." off-site backup is required for disaster recovery as well as to prevent damage from worms that propagate throughout a local network (see Worm.ExploreZip virus).
