Definition: microcell

(1) A small geographic area covered by a cellular carrier or some other transmission system. Also called "micro towers," microcells are used in cities and other densely populated venues. Prior to 5G, microcells reached out a mile or so; however, with the advent of 5G, microcells are limited to only a few hundred feet. The higher frequencies of 5G demand microcell deployment because the signals can be easily interrupted. See 5G, 5G radiation and distributed antenna system.

(2) (MicroCell) An indoor cellular tower from AT&T. See femtocell.
