(1) A small geographic area covered by a cellular carrier or some other transmission system. Also called "micro towers," microcells are used in cities and other densely populated venues. Prior to 5G, microcells reached out a mile or so; however, with the advent of 5G, microcells are limited to only a few hundred feet.
