Definition: matrixed channel

In digital audio, it refers to an audio channel that has been created from other channels. Surround sound algorithms often use matrixed channels to utilize all the speaker locations in the room when there are fewer channels in the source material. Contrast with "discrete channel," which contains an independent stream of data that originates from the audio source. See Dolby Digital and DTS.
