Definition: LAA

(Licensed Assisted Access) A 3GPP standard for cellular transmission in the 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. To co-exist fairly with Wi-Fi, which operates in the same spectrum, LAA uses the "listen before talk" (LBT) method before transmitting. Wi-Fi also uses the LBT scheme with its collision avoidance technology (see CSMA/CA). Contrast with LTE-U. See ISM band.
