Definition: auto scroll
(1) A feature in various applications that cycles through the next item automatically. For example, in Instagram Reels, auto scroll can be selected to automatically scroll to the next video after each one has completed. See Instagram.
(2) To scroll by dragging the mouse pointer beyond the edge of the current window or screen. Auto scroll is not a common feature.

In the Windows version of this encyclopedia, this auto scroll was added because a bug in the first version (circa 1995) caused the program to crash when scrolled. Pressing the Arrow key manually until it crashed could take minutes, and this added function did the grunt work. After the bugs were resolved, the auto scroll served as a demo mode. See debug.
