The previous line of iPhones introduced in 2023, comprising the 15, 15 Plus and top end Pro and Pro Max. Affecting all users is the switch from Apple's own Lightning connector to USB Type C. A Lightning-to-C cable is provided; however, only Pro models support USB 3.0 whereas all others are USB 2.0 (see
USB 3.2).
Pro models have a titanium case rather than stainless steel as well as Apple's latest A17 chip. With two high-performance and four high-efficiency cores, the A17 was designed for higher-level gaming. The 15 and Plus support Wi-Fi 6, but both Pro models bump wireless to 6E. See
Lightning connector and
Wi-Fi 6.
Notch and Action Button
On all models, the notch is replaced with the Dynamic Island, and Pro models have a dedicated Action Button in place of the Ring/Silent switch. The Action button can be programmed to activate the user's selected function. See
iPhone notch and
iPhone Action button.
Portraits, Tetraprism and Support for Vision Pro
Pro and Pro Max cameras have a 48MP main camera, 12MP wide camera and dedicated telephoto lens. The Pro Max's "Tetraprism" telephoto lens is structured like a periscope with internal folded glass that allows light to travel farther. Both models capture spatial video (3D video) that can be viewed on Apple's extended reality headset (see
Apple Vision Pro). See
iPhone and
iPhone versions.
