Apple's text messaging service for Apple devices starting with iOS 5 in 2011 and Mac OS X 10.8 in 2012. iMessage enables users to send and receive text, photos and videos with other iMessage users as well as regular SMS and MMS users (Android, BlackBerry, etc.). If the user does not have an Internet connection, messages use the carrier's cellular system via SMS and MMS. iMessage is the service but "Messages" is the app. See
