Definition: gold-chipped supercomputer

A reference to chip-enabled credit and debit cards that have superseded the cards that had only magnetic stripes. However, the term is misleading and downright erroneous. There is no more than a few pennies worth of gold in the chip, if that, and the processors used in these cards are low-end microcontrollers that hardly qualify as supercomputers. In fact, they are at the other end of the spectrum. See smart card, microcontroller, chip and supercomputer.
