A laser that is constructed within an optical fiber. It is similar in concept to gas lasers and laser diodes, except that a part of the fiber itself is used as the resonating cavity where the laser action takes place. A laser diode is used as a pump, and mirrors accept the pump wavelength on one side and transmit the lased wavelength on the other.
Fiber Laser
A fiber laser uses part of the fiber itself to generate the laser light and eliminates coupling problems with external LEDs and laser diodes.
