Slang for accidentally pressing the wrong key on a keyboard and entering an erroneous command that causes a serious problem. The term harks back to the very early days when computers were instructed to perform operations by flipping switches on the console. Fat finger also refers to mistakes made by erroneous typing of dollar amounts, account numbers or other critical values. See
