Mobile device management (MDM) enables applications and configuration settings to be deployed to multiple devices in the field. The MDM server interacts with an application in the client device and can also be used to wipe out the contact data and other settings in lost and stolen phones or those from terminated employees.
Prior to iPhones and Androids, BlackBerry's mobile device management helped it become very popular in the corporate world. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) enabled enterprises to sync users' phones with their Microsoft Exchange mail systems (see
