Making sure a list of email addresses is valid. Email verification is a service used by marketers to ensure that messages will be sent to valid recipients. Marketers with routine email campaigns do not want a high rate of bounces, which can cause them to be blacklisted as a spammer by their email provider. People leave companies all the time, and emails sent to their old company will bounce back to the sender. Addresses may be incorrectly spelled; for example, sarah@computer@language.com. In addition, email domain names are also verified to ensure there is a valid mail server at the receiving end. See
DaaS and
data scrubbing.
