Definition: smart toilet

An electronically controlled toilet that sprays the genitalia and buttocks with warm water. Known as a "bidet," pronounced "bid-day," such appliances promote personal hygiene and are used before and after sex. Smart toilets are built from scratch; however, a standard toilet may be adapted by replacing the seat with its digital counterpart. See smart.

Retrofitted Toilet
Any toilet can be easily made digital by replacing the seat such as this Alpha Bidet example. Operated by remote control, a T connector splits the water source between the toilet tank and the unit. Features include a nightlight, water temperature and pressure controls, plus warm air drying. In this photo, the seat lid was removed.
