An automotive safety system that keeps track of the driver. There are two kinds of driver monitoring systems. The first is a driver alert, which determines that the driver may be drowsy or not driving responsibly. For example, if the car has not stopped in so many hours, the driver may be asked to stop and take a break (see
driver alert).
Continuous Driver Monitoring
The second form is for commercial drivers and fleet owners. Rather than respond to only sudden braking or swerving, which may be valid attempts to avoid an accident, continuous driver monitoring keeps track of the driver in and out of the vehicle. For example, moving violations are also monitored along with the actual behavior of the driver in the truck. See
automotive safety systems.
