Definition: dialog enhancer

A device that augments sound in the human vocal range. As people get older, they lose hearing in the high frequencies, and audio dialog on TV and in movies becomes increasingly more difficult to understand. Dialog enhancers boost the sound at the higher end and may be user adjustable. Also called an "audio enhancer."
