Definition: device-based age verification

Verifying a user's age by the device being used. Device-based age verification is suggested to keep minors from viewing inappropriate content. The current approach is site-based verification, which is essentially meaningless because it simply asks the user to click or tap a Yes button if they are over 18.

Device-based age verification requires people to prove their age one time with a driver's license or government-issued ID, and both the website and device must use the same standard. Because of free speech and privacy laws, there are challenges to this system; however, it is a serious method in contrast to clicking Yes.
