Definition: data democratization

Allowing people in an organization access to company data without having to go through the IT department. Proponents of data democratization believe that better decisions are made when all aspects of a company are made available to employees in all departments. Opponents claim the disadvantages are a greater privacy and security risk, and not everyone can interpret the data properly.
