Definition: cyber insurance

An insurance policy that remunerates an organization for breaches of security and privacy. For example, if a website is hacked and sensitive customer data are stolen, the site publisher is covered for lawsuits filed against it.

In contrast, tech E&O (technology errors and omissions) policies protect the manufacturer of the hardware and software. Both kinds of policies contain similar provisions.
