(1) For a market cap website, see
CoinMarketCap.
(2) The value of the total number of coins of a particular cryptocurrency in circulation multiplied by the current price. Market cap is never 100% perfect because many private keys have been lost and those coins are gone forever. Following are related terms:
Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV)
The maximum supply of coins that will ever exist multiplied by the current price. The FDV is generally larger than the market cap.
Circulating Supply
The total number of coins ever mined.
Total Supply
The current supply minus all coins that have been removed (see
crypto burning).
Total Value Locked (TVL)
The value of how much crypto has been staked and loaned. See
total value locked.
Maximum Supply
The total number of coins that can ever come into existence. For example, Bitcoin will eventually be capped at 21 million coins. See
Bitcoin,
CoinMarketCap and
crypto glossary.
