Definition: credit card security

Precautions that prevent credit card numbers from being stolen. Credit card security is enhanced by several methods. First, the printed security code (CSC or CVV) on the credit card itself prevents someone from using a stolen card number over the phone or online without having the physical card in hand. Secondly, although not perfect, the migration from magnetic stripes on the card to EMV chips provides greater security. See CSC and EMV.
