Definition: corded phone


A telephone that has a handset wired to a base unit, which either sits on a table or desk or is wall mounted. Corded phones can be made wireless by plugging in a base station (see headset). Although corded phones were the original telephone design dating back to the late 1800s, hundreds of millions of them still exist in homes and offices. Contrast with cordless phone.
