An individual or group that uses computers or specialized hardware to participate in blockchain processing for rewards paid in cryptocurrency. In a proof-of-work (PoW) network, a crypto miner competes with other miners to add the next block of transactions to the blockchain. In a proof-of-stake (PoS) network such as Ethereum, a crypto miner is a "validator" randomly selected to be a "proposer." See
