Definition: clickbait

A derogatory term for an ad or headline that entices the user to click for more information. Clickbait implies that the content is either misleading, not entirely accurate or not very informative and that the link is there merely to generate ad income. Quite often the title of a news article borders on clickbait when it is written to sound more interesting or provacative than the actual content.
