Definition: Twitter Blue

A paid option for X/Twitter users launched in 2021 and revamped in 2022 when Elon Musk acquired the company. The revised Twitter Blue includes, among other features, 30 minutes to edit a posted tweet, custom app icons and themes, tweets up to 10,000 characters, custom navigation, fewer ads, folders for bookmarking tweets and two-factor authentication.

The Blue Checkmark
In the past a blue checkmark on a Twitter account meant that it was independently verified to be genuine. However, the blue checkmark became a feature of the revised Twitter Blue if users meet eligibility requirements. By April 2023, all blue checkmarks given freely to Twitter users in the past were removed. Businesses receive a gold checkmark.

Tweetdeck
A popular X/Twitter feature that provides management of Twitter accounts with customizable columns. Originally a separate app in 2008, Tweetdeck was acquired by Twitter in 2011 and became part of the Twitter software. In July 2023, it was announced that Tweetdeck would be part of Twitter Blue.
