Definition: digital archivist

A person who converts information in all forms into a digital file for long-term storage and retrieval. Archivists may convert existing digital files as well as paper documents, photos, audio and video (analog or digital) into a random access format (magnetic disk or solid state drive) or a sequential format (magnetic tape). The digital archivist creates the necessary indexes to make the information retrievable by name or via a search function. See archive and LTO.
